The Student Nutrition Association (SNA) at UC Davis is an academic club serving as a link to social, academic, and community resources for students interested in nutrition and health.

SNA believes that good nutrition, including a well balanced diet and regular physical activity, is the foundation for health and development. For over 50 years SNA has served the UC Davis campus community promoting this concept.

Members of SNA gain knowledge and the tools necessary to champion healthy eating while simultaneously gaining valuable professional development. Membership is open to everyone who wants to join! The membership fee is $15 for the quarter or $25 for the year.

Community Service

SNA strives to be an active part of the Davis and Sacramento communities through volunteerism. SNA visits local schools, participates in UC Davis's Picnic Day, and teams up with other organizations such as Davis Community Meals and the Davis Farm to School Connection to teach nutrition and health education. SNA is also active in the UC Davis Campus Community and promotes healthy eating habits in the DC's and at the ARC.

If you have any suggestions or questions, please contact our Community Service Chair: Melissa Fiscus at mefiscus@ucdavis.edu.

Social Networking

restaurant review

SNA is the best place for meeting new people and networking in the nutrition community. SNA acts as a medium to interact freely with other members to talk about internship experiences and classes. In addition, SNA serves as a liaison to nutrition professors and faculty and keeps students up to date with social and academic activities put on by the Northern Area Dietetic Association.

SNA hosts a yearly potluck in Meyer Hall for nutrition students and professors, co-hosts a yearly barbeque for the nutrition department, and holds a yearly wine and cheese social for SNA members. Throughout the year there are several club social events to attend, such as potlucks, restaurant reviews, guest speakers and fundraising events!

If you have any suggestions for social or fundraising events please contact our Social Chair, Phoebe Copp, at plcopp@ucdavis.edu.

Hungry Reader

The Hungry Reader is a nutrition education program developed by UC Davis’s very own Student Nutrition Association. The program utilizes undergraduate volunteers to teach interactive, hands on lessons to kindergarteners during regular school hours. The program currently operates in the Sacramento, West Sacramento, Woodland, and San Francisco.

Participating student volunteers visit the kindergarten classroom once a week for eight consecutive weeks with each visit lasting one hour. In addition, students meet weekly to plan, brainstorm, and assign duties.

If you are interested in participating contact Catherine Pohorsky at crpohorsky@ucdavis.edu

Farmers Market

SNA promotes healthy eating at the Campus Farmers Market. SNA members provide healthy samples, delicious recipes, and tips for good health. Nutrition education at the Farmers Market is a relatively new part of SNA’s involvement in the local community. In the upcoming months we hope to update this Webpage with the same nutrition tips, recipes, and information we provide at the Farmers Market. If you have nutrition questions feel free to visit our booth at the Farmers Market and check back for updates.

For questions about nutrition education at the Davis Farmers Market contact our Nutrition Education Coordinator: Catherine Pohorsky at crpohorsky@ucdavis.edu
